I grew up in the karst mountains of Guilin—China’s version of Yosemite and Innsbruck—but my journey took me through Cornell in the U.S., Europe, and Singapore. Living abroad taught me that the world sees our skyscrapers, but rarely our souls.

After years of living across the globe, I’m back home on a mission: to pull back the curtain on the real China through street-level conversations and deep cultural dives. I founded Deep Dive China to be the bridge I wish I had when I was traveling—showing you the hidden corners and authentic dialogue that guidebooks miss.

This program explores Guangzhou's profound historical layers, from its ancient origins as the capital of the Nanyue Kingdom to its crucial role in modern Chinese revolutions and reforms. Guangzhou is a city where ancient traditions meet revolutionary fervor, a place that has shaped China's destiny for centuries. This course takes you from the archaeological wonders of the Nanyue Kingdom, revealing its sophisticated ancient civilization, to the historic Shamian Island, a testament to its foreign trade legacy. We will explore Guangzhou's unique position as a hub for maritime trade, a birthplace of modern Chinese revolutions, and a vibrant center of reform and opening up.
